Welcome! Edit

It’s a pleasure to meet you, and I hope you enjoy this tour of the Many Worlds. I’m your guide, Kayleigh, the creator of these worlds, and if you have any questions when we come to the end feel free to email me at kayleigh.a.webb@gmail.com.

A number of the worlds have existed for over a decade now, as I started working on them when I was still a teenager, so they’ve grown and changed as time has passed. During the tour I’ll tell you about each of the worlds, how they came to exist, and the best stories to read for each of them. A number of them have alternate universes, because I enjoy seeing how things would have worked out if someone had made a different choice, and there are also some crossovers, as one of my favourite things to do with my characters is to throw them into a situation they aren’t ready for. I do plan on writing more of them.

One thing I would like to point out is that I am a writer in the UK, so my stories are set there. However there are a number of collections that would work with some of the stories set in other countries and if you have any interest in writing something like that let me know. My email address is just above.

So, let’s begin. I think I’ll start with some of the smaller collections first and then go from there. Some of them have become far bigger than I anticipated when I started working on them, which has been an interesting thing to see happen. There are, currently, twelve collections I’m working on, as well as some others that might come to exist in the near future, depending on how things work out. I do, when I can, write a lot, and I have a lot of ideas I want to start writing, but the issue at the moment is time constraints due to having to earn an income. If you find a story you’d like me to continue then I do have a tip jar in the side bar. £3.00 will get you 1000 words more of any story currently posted.

Kim’s Earth Edit

I very much enjoy post-apocalyptic stories and this one is a man-made apocalypse, created by a World Government that was panicking over the population of the Earth. When they first came into power, not long after they’d helped to stop what could have been the Third World War, they brought in a parenting test, to make certain those who wanted to have children were ready, and fines for those who had children when they hadn’t passed the test. However this didn’t seem to have the effect the World Government wanted it to, so they started working on a contraceptive injection that would work on both genders. Unfortunately, in their haste to get it out, it didn’t go through the rigorous testing it should have done, which led to the deaths of millions of people over the age of consent. In the UK this is anyone over the age of sixteen.

It is named after the first character I created for the collection. Kim didn’t have the injection, thanks to her parents paying the World Government’s fine, because her dad thought things would end up going wrong, although I don’t believe he anticipated quite how wrong. Her story can be found here and this is a good place to start with the collection as a whole. Currently the stories are about what happens early on, as this is simply how things worked out. There is the beginning of a crossover between this and the Fae World collection here. I wanted to write this crossover, because I thought it would be interesting to see how the fae dealt with the situation. There is the beginning of a crossover between this and the Afterlife collection here. I started this crossover, as I was fascinated by the effect such an influx of the dead would have on the Afterlife, and also includes one of the characters from the Deities’ World.

The Brotherhood Edit

This started a very long time ago when I started wondering what the world would have been like if the Millennium Bug had been real – it just had nothing to do with computers. Instead it had to do with children being born with unusual abilities. To begin with they were werewolves. Slowly that has evolved, although the first of the houses I wrote about was the Shapeshifter House. Any child with the ability to shift is drawn by a crystal to the house. I know there are seven houses in total, and one of those is the Shadow House, but I haven’t written stories about any of those houses yet. That’s something on the list I really would like to get started with. There are some stories from later in the history of the Brotherhood, when certain choices made by the man who was leading it meant other chose to create another group, which was named Unity.

Start here with this collection. It’s important to remember the characters shown in this were children when they found themselves homeless and alone, so they’ve had a difficult time, which means they react to things differently. There’s an alternate universe here, that shows what would have happened if one character who died had survived. Then there’s an alternate universe here, where the leader of the Brotherhood is sent back in time, to give him a chance to change how things turned out. Finally there is an alternate universe here, where one of the men who first learnt about the crystals goes back in time to try to stop the Brotherhood from being created in the first place. At the moment there are no crossovers, but that’s something I would like to change.

Aurora’s World Edit

Like Kim’s Earth this was named after one of the main characters I was writing about, who was the first character I ever wrote about in this collection, which was based on magic being illegal and Aurora being one of the magic users. I kept this, because I liked the concept, and simply changed the characters around her. What I am planning on doing is writing the other version, to show the difference between the two, as I enjoy doing things like that – and because Aurora was a very different person in that version. With this collection I’ve gone backwards and forwards in time, I’ve visited the other kingdoms, and I plan on writing a couple of alternate universes to show how certain things have affected the lives of the magic users in this world. Another interesting thing about this collection is that the magic they have is based on their date of birth. As I started with Aurora, and they lack this knowledge, I am still working everything out. From some of the stories I’ve written it seems like the magic users of this world have needed to learn about their abilities multiple times.

The best place to start is here. The collection is in time line order for all the kingdoms, but this is something that can be changed in the future, as I write more of the stories for the other kingdoms. Each one is slightly different. Atecia is probably one of the safest kingdoms during Aurora’s time, although it’s still not a good place for magic users to live, and it isn’t unusual for them to end up living in the mountains, where they’re safe. Haerith only has an early story, from around the time of Calix’s life in Atecia. Ialaera is home to the thieves, who steal magic from other people, leading to this being one of the more dangerous kingdoms. Finally there’s Konir, home to the sanctuary, which has been abandoned for some time before Clay finds out about it, and that’s going to lead to some interesting stories.

Heliopath’s World Edit

Heliopath, unsurprisingly, was the first of the characters I created for this collection, therefore it’s named after him. At one point he was in another story with Aurora, which I might write again, because that was fun, although both Heliopath and Aurora were dealing with a very different situation. In this collection he’s one of the heroes, rather than the villains, when he was originally one of the villains. I actually wasn’t planning on writing him like that, but he did what a lot of my characters do and make it so that he was entirely different to the person I thought he was. That’s something I should be used to by now. The main setting is Ildieu, a city created during a mage war. When the mages who’d chosen to live there stepped through the gateway they removed all of their memories. At some point I do want to write that, as it’s fascinating, but for now the focus in on Heliopath, who is doing his best to stop another war. Thinking about it none of the characters in this collection ever seem to do what I think they’re going to do.

The best place to start is here. It will give you some background and make it a little easier to understand what’s happening. Everything is a little convoluted, because different people are making different plans, and then, of course, you have the magic, which has evolved to give some rather nasty after effects when it’s used. What those after effects are depend on what level the magic is. Then we have one alternate universe, created during a prompt session, so this isn’t one I would have put together. It is interesting, however, so I might do the same thing again.

The Magi Edit

Instead of being named after a main character this collection, but one of the main races. The Magi are, or were, the healers of the world, but things have changed a lot since they first escaped the Carne. Originally they were kept as slaves. They were taught how to heal by their owners and it was after this they decided to escape, so they could have control over their own lives. I started with a story that’s later in the time line, when the Carne are dealing with an illness they know only the Magi can help with, and one of their princes makes the decision to see if he can convince them to help. One of the Magi goes with him and from that point on things are very different for both races. Stories are going to be written throughout the history of the Magi when I get the time, as this has always been a favourite of mine, especially as I enjoy writing about healers.

I suggest you start here. This will give you an idea of the beginning of the Magi. I do have a lot more work to do on the stories. As I’ve said before it’s a case of finding the time to work on them. There’s also one alternate universe, that I wrote for fun based on one of the original beginnings for this collection. I want to do a couple more of them, because I have had some very different ideas for this collection, and I’d like to see how they work out.

Thear Edit

Thear, I believe, is one of my oldest worlds. At one point Kim’s Earth was actually written as a linked collection, but then I changed things around, in part due to the way Thear evolved through the years, because it has changed a lot. Originally it was going to be a world where a group of young women from Earth found themselves, with the Thearans having the better technology. As I wrote that story I found it didn’t work for Thear, especially as they’re going through a lot of changes, which led me to where I am now. I have written three alternate universes to show where there began, because I want to write the stories. In the first Brooke finds herself on Thear, which is based on the very first idea for this. In the second Tabitha is making the journey to Thear, with no knowledge of exactly what she’ll find. In the third Evelyn sees a planet out of the window, and this is how Thear was going to be connected to Kim’s Earth, as the World Government had sent out a number of ships in order to help with the increased population on Earth.

Begin here with the current incarnation of Thear. Stories are in time line order. I have some other stories I plan on posting up, to show exactly how this incarnation has evolved, because I want to show how it had changed. I do plan on going back in their history, as a lot has happened, including the arrival of the three races on the island they call home. That should lead to me learning more about the rest of the world as well. I know it’s out there somewhere. I just haven’t written anything about it.

The Deities’ World Edit

It should be fairly self explanatory what this collection is about. My starting point with this was Persephone and Hades’ daughter, who wanted to have her story told, and it’s grown from there. After the deities found they were no longer needed on Earth, at least for the time being, they didn’t just stop existing – and there are plenty of other worlds still for me to write about, but, for the moment, I’m focusing on the deities themselves. Those who want to tell their stories will find a way. One of the more interesting things is that Lucifer, instead of being an angel, is a deity, so that’s been something I’ve enjoyed writing about. This collection also has a very close connection with Thear, as all the Thearan deities were once Earth deities, so there’s a lot of crossover between the two of them. There also some crossover between the Deities’ World and the Afterlife.

The best story to start with is this. With every story I write I learn more about the deities, their world, and the people they guide, so I really do want to be writing more of this. Some of the deities that were now have gone on to the next stage and that’s another thing I want to explore, as I’m not entirely sure how it works. Then there’s also a Deities’ World/World Walkers crossover.

The Afterlife Edit

When I started writing I had a story about a woman who was training to become a spirit guide. From there the collection grew in ways I could never have expected. I wasn’t planning on involving the angels, and then they made the decision to involve themselves, so the main one I’ve been focusing on are Uriel, Samael, and Gabriel. It’s been interesting. Then there’s Death, who’s a psychopomp. I’m pretty certain there are others, and there’s a story I want to work out about one of them, which I hope to start on soon. There is still the woman becoming a spirit guide, although she’s a very different person now.

I would suggest starting here. Stories are in time line order, so you can learn more about the characters as you go, especially the angels, who’ve had a hard time of things. I want to write more about them. I think Micheal’s relatively high on the list, because I haven’t seen much of him. As I said before there is also the Afterlife/Kim’s Earth crossover. Writing more about different deaths and how they affect both the spirits and the afterlife is also high on the list.

Pagan Edit

I started writing this, because I wanted to write about what it was to be a witch, and then it’s grown from there. One of the characters is a walk-in, another is learning shamanism, and there’s a whole lot more going on than I thought there would be, which isn’t a bad thing. I am planning on writing a lot more for this collection, as I have a circle to learn more about, a number of characters I never expected to be a part of the story, and some older works I’d like to at least post up, because they show where this all started. I remember when it was going to be a story about four girls and now it’s become something very different.

Start here with this collection. Again stories are in time line order. There’s also one alternate universe, which was created during a random number prompt session, so they’re a group of characters from other collections becoming a part of this one.

The Donor House Edit

I’ve always been interested in what it would be like to be immortal and this is what came out of that interest. There are another couple of houses planned, one of which I already have the basics sorted for, and then the other is little more than an idea. What I wanted to do was show that there are people who would embrace being a vampire, one of whom created the auctions, and those who wouldn’t, so they’d feel like they didn’t have anywhere they could call home. The Donor House was meant to be that place. It’s where the vampires who never wanted to be what they are gather, as well as the vampires who’ve realised they don’t want to be the same person they were in the past. They’ve been given a chance to live their life differently. As it’s also home to a number of humans, who chose to be donors for the vampires, it’s changed things in more ways than the vampires who created it could ever have expected – and that’s a good thing. Some of the stories I’ve written are set outside the House, but more of them are set within the walls of the House.

The best place to start the Donor House is here. From here you can go back in the time line, to learn more about what happened before, and forwards. Then there are five alternate universes and one experimental second person story. Alternate universe one is a character change, showing one of the main characters as a two-spirit, as he’s Native America. Alternate universe two and three are alternate characters, showing characters from other collections in the Donor House. Alternate universe four is a story I’ve been interested in writing for a while, which is about what happens if someone makes a cure for vampirism… and it goes disastrously wrong. Alternate universe five is Anne Boleyn changing Henry the Eighth into a vampire, and how that changes everything.

The Fae World Edit

This started off as being about the fae coming to Earth, after destroying the world they called home, and it’s grown from there. We do have the fae Earth, and the best place to start with that is this story. Obviously having the fae here does have a big effect on everyone, so it’s been interesting to write about, which is part of the reason it’s grown so much. There are a number of stories within this I want to write more about – the fae hotel, that Claire inherits from an uncle she didn’t know existed; the coffee shop, which is where those who aren’t fully accepted by either the humans or the fae go; shapeshifter daycare; and the fae school, where both the fae and those with mixed blood are taught how to use their magic. I’ve written the most about the school, as that was where I started.

There’s also Kalinia, the world the fae destroyed, and what happened after the fae left. I started on one point on the time line, before going backwards, forwards, and sideways. It’s a fascinating world, right from the beginning, especially as there’s a lot of history the fae don’t know about. Arkal is the world the Dragons travelled to, from Kalinia, making the decision it would be best for the humans if they didn’t have to deal with them as well as the mer, the fae, and the shifters. Quindil is the world the griffins travelled to, long before the fae accepted they were destroying their world. Tuloch is a world another small group of shifters travelled to, along with a couple of the fae, but I’m still learning about that world. Valatar is a world chosen by a creator race as the home for one of their races, and one thing I’m certain is that this creator race had something to do with the fae. Endiri is the world some of the fae chose as the home for the people they saved from Earth, when they were trying to change time, in order to make a safer Earth for the fae who were travelling here. Benira and Lorasia are the twinned worlds, that I believe may have been created by the same race who chose to use Valatar. Finally there’s the world I believe the selkies ended up.

After that we have the magically created worlds, that were once books, or T.V. shows, or games. Aesurn is a book world chosen by someone for an experiment. Crosskeel is a town in a T.V. show. Eorith was the world of an RPG. Plienedes was another book world. There’s one world that doesn’t yet have a name, but has been created purely to experiment with this phenomenon. There are definitely going to be more of these, as fae magic has a very strong effect on fictional worlds.

Finally there’s the alternate universes. I’ve already mention the Fae World/Kim’s Earth crossover. Then we have an alternate universe created by someone travelling to the future; an alternate universe that is connected to the World Walkers’ collection, and two alternate Kalinia’s, where one of the characters makes a different choice, which does have an effect on what happens next.

The World Walkers Edit

This is my biggest collection, because of how it started. When the Thirteen Families finally accepted Kalinia was dying they travelled to Athare, and the Council made the decision the best thing they could do was protect Athare by creating more worlds and races in the hope those races would work in the same way humans do. Unfortunately the Council didn’t seem to understand what that meant. Athare, and Emrys, did. From the very beginning Emrys had been asked to help with the creation of the Web, so that’s exactly what he did, and the fae found themselves a minority in comparison to the sheer number of created races. Of course this led to panic, because the fae doesn’t like what it can’t control, and they hid themselves within thirteen warded settlement. Well, the majority did. The rest stayed where they were, finished the job they had to do, and set about doing the best they could to help the created races, even though the rest of the fae didn’t like it. Eventually the first of the Walkers was born and that led to more panic.

Now the first rule of the Walkers is not to get involved. They can watch over things, but they can’t help, and the natural Walkers keep out of that mess. The Council Walkers are a different matter. Most of them follows the rules. Some of them don’t.

Athare is the only natural world in the Web. Eleven of the worlds have been named and written about. Those eleven worlds are: Kankirin, one of the lost worlds, which is home to some very strange people; Janoch, the world of bonded magic, which has a different effect on each race; Gaelom, the weapons world, and the clones of the world, created by Emrys as a back-up plan, due to the volatility of some of the races of the Web; Kniroch, a world I haven’t learnt much about yet, but I do know more about its sibling worlds, Sterling, Labyrinth, Pendragon, Edge, and Oracle; Siaral, the home of the magical creatures and their breeders, as well as a number of interesting magics; Aerith, the lost world of winter, created because when I started writing this collection it was going to be about four connected worlds that each had a different season before growing; Raenarin, the witch world; Saethera, another world I don’t know much about; Taithmarin, the sanctuary of a number of races, but is lost to the Web; Beshaki, the split world, with each third being home to a different period of time: day, twilight, and night; and Quiar, created by the wonderful Elizabeth Barrette, who built something incredibly elegant that’s home to some of the most interesting races. I learn more about the worlds with every story I write and I love writing about them. They’re so wonderfully interesting, and the best place to end our tour of the Many World.
